19 May 2007 (Viet Nam News) – While we’re on the subject of museums and collections, museum professionals in Vietnam were discussing how to better catalogue their collection of over 200,000 artefacts and documents, with the aim of building a user-oriented classification system.
Museum collections should be better catalogued: experts
Artifacts and archived documents in Viet Nam’s museums need to be better inventoried, with more documentation on each item, according to participants at a seminar yesterday in HCM City.
Exhibits should be registered, classified and arranged systematically with an aim to serve the needs of researchers, educators and the public, they said.
The seminar, jointly held by the Ministry of Culture and Information’s Cultural Heritage Department, the War Remnants Museum and HCM City University of Culture, was held to celebrate World Museum Day (May 18).
During the meeting, museum administrators, researchers and university rectors shared their experiences in inventoring items belonging to Viet Nam’s 120 museums nationwide.
