Bagan’s Department of Archaeology, National Museum and Library expects tourist arrivals will continue to grow dramatically over the next three years.
The department’s deputy director, U Nyein Lwin, told Myanmar Times that the possible designation of the city as a UNESCO Heritage Site, if successful, would spur international interest.
“The site will continue to attract more tourists over the next three years,” he predicted.
Culture Minister, U Aye Myint Kyu, said technical expertise, communications and cultural understanding were crucial for Bagan if it is to save its heritage.
