via Myanmar Times, 09 January 2020: Myanmar reports that only 11 pagodas damaged in the 2016 earthquake remain for repair.
Only 11 pagodas damaged during the 2016 earthquake that struck the Bagan cultural heritage site are left to be repaired, according to the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture.
The ministry said in a statement that a total of 389 pagodas suffered damage from the strong tremors that hit the area on August 24, 2016 but most of the damaged structures have been rehabilitated.
Experts from Japan, South Korea, China and Germany helped in the repair and reconstruction of the damaged pagodas while local donors contributed to the effort the ministry said. Currently, 15 pagodas are under renovation.
