via Khmer Times, 25 February 2020: Fire was related to agricultural clearing, and it looks like none of the ancient monuments were affected.
Kampong Thom provincial officials yesterday reported that a fire broke out at the Sambor Prei Kuk archaeological site in Prasat Sambour district’s Sambour commune Sunday morning after villagers nearby started burning grass.
Provincial Governor Sok Lou said strong winds at about 11am spread the fire to the archaeological site, but it was put out before it could damage temples and large trees.
“The fire burned about 20 hectares consisting of dead leaves and small trees,” Mr Lou said. “Firefighters were able to intervene on time while other people and I helped extinguish spots a fire engine could not reach.”
