via Peter Richards, 05 May 2020: A tour of the Kayah State Cultural Museum with a look at the different tribes and their material culture: there is a segment on weaving, totem raising, and also a segment on bronze drums which are still being used today.
Author, travel expert and community worker Mr. Pascal Khoo Thwe welcomes visitors to Loikaw, Kayah State, Myanmar; and provides a charming and lively introduction to the fascinating lives, traditions, costumes and cultures of local ethnic groups, including the famous Kayan, who maintain the tradition of wearing gleaming brass coils around their necks, Karenni and Kayaw peoples. An ethnic Kayan who spent years living overseas, Khoo Thwe’s passion for the people and their way of life shines through this mini documentary; which was produced for Kayah State Cultural Museum by the UN International Trade Center (ITC) as part of the NTFIII Inclusive Tourism Project in Myanmar. The video also serves as a useful orientation for visitors who plan to visit local, ethnic communities on inspiring community based cultural tours (CBT), developed by the ITC team in cooperation with local community members and local tour operators and guides.
