via Myanmar Times, 11 January 2021: Hotels in Bagan looking to reopen, to whom they are reopening for remains unclear.
Hotels and inns in Bagan plan to submit a proposal to the regional government to resume operations in line with guidelines and instructions from the Ministry of Health and Sports.
Owners of some hotels and inns will sign a letter for reopening and submit it to the relevant authorities so they can get permission to resume their services in accordance with the regulations, said U Zaw Win Cho, owner of Crown Prince Hotel.
The hotelier said the suspension of operations and lengthy temporary closure has led to economic challenges for hotel owners and their staff.
“There have been certain problems regarding our staff as every hotel was ordered to shut down. We cannot accept guests but it is not possible for us to let go of our staff. We are not able to pay their full salaries and have had to make appropriate arrangements for them as the COVID-19 pandemic continues. Let’s (not talk about making a) profit, we would like to resume operations for our employees,” he said.
