via Myanmar Times, 20 January 2021: Comments from the patron of the Myanmar Archaeology Association.
Armed conflicts, which uproot people from their homes, has been one of the causes for the destruction of intangible cultural heritage in Myanmar, a Myanmar archeologist said.
Daw Nu Mya Zan, patron of Myanmar Archaeology Association, said fighting forced thousands of people to flee their homes and the resulting social and economic troubles they face away from their homes have made them forget their traditions and cultures.
“Most of the wars happen in the states where our ethnic people live,” she said. “More wars, more IDPs. Increasing number of IDPs is not only a social issue but also a major cause for the destruction of ICH.”
