via Antara News, 13 March 2021: In 2019, Borobudur received an average of 8,000 visitors a day, but the optimum number by the Borobudur Conservation Centre is only 128!
Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan highlighted the main problem of the high volume of visitors at Borobudur Temple exerting a huge pressure on its structure.
“Hence, quality tourism will be implemented in Borobudur by preparing the 1979 Master Plan as a reference for the latest Tourism Master Plan,” Pandjaitan remarked during his working visit to the super-priority tourism destination of Borobudur on Friday (Mar 13).
Over 3.3 million people had visited Borobudur Temple in 2019, or an equivalent of eight thousand people a day.
On the basis of results of a study by the Borobudur Conservation Center, the peak area of Borobudur Temple is ideally able to accommodate at most 128 visitors per visit each day.
