According to the Department of Archaeology and National Museum, a Nomination Dossier (draft) has been submitted to the World Heritage Committee in an attempt to receive official recognition for Mrauk-U heritage site.
Mrauk-U cultural heritage zone is classified as a national level area and there are a total of 48 zones considered to be heritage zones. In the past, nominations have also been submitted for global recognition for 10 cultural heritage and 17 natural heritage zones in Myanmar.
On June 22 2014, ancient Phyu cities such as Han Lin, Beik Tha No, Thayaykhittayar were officially listed and on July 6 2019, the Bagan Cultural Heritage Zone was also given the status.
