The need to preserve and retain a place’s history is often ignored or abandoned by modern physical development, particularly in urban areas. A collision between heritage ideals and rapid developments is one of the constant challenges in urban cultural heritage conservation. However, there has been a significant shift in recent times, with growing knowledge among stakeholders and the local community about the protection and development of heritage. This presentation would highlight the recent archaeological findings in Penang and stakeholders’ challenges and efforts in leveraging the heritage assets in the urban Penang.
