via Khmer Times, 06 January 2022: The central spire of Angkor Wat is being renovated and strengthened by the Apsara Authority, and expected to be complete by the end of April.
The APSARA authority released a notification on the process of renovating the central tower, known as Bakan, of Angkor Wat in order to strengthen the tower.
An engineer and technical officer of the Department of Temple Preservation in Angkor Park and the Preventive Archaeology of the APSARA Authority, Horn Sokcheat, said that some of the stones of the tower had moved from their original positions.
The shifting of the stones is due to natural factors such as rain, erosion, and plants growing between the gaps of the rocks. The deterioration and shift is also due to the age of the temple.
