via Free Malaysia Today, 13 January 2022: Some of the cave temples in Perak are more than a hundred years old, and are in constant danger because of mining and the lack of heritage protection.
Badan Warisan Malaysia has urged the national heritage department to gazette the Kinta district’s 14 cave temples, including one that is 155 years old, as national heritage sites.
Its president Lim Wei-Ling said the Perak menteri besar (Saarani Mohamad) also had the discretion to safeguard heritage sites on state land like the temples and their caves, which she said were unique specimens of the area’s built and natural heritage, particularly as eviction notices had been served on the temples.
