via Khmer Times, 02 February 2022: The excavation of Prohm Kel is expected to be complete this month.
Archaeologists from the APSARA Authorities have commenced the excavation and study of the structure of the Prohm Kel Temple prior to the renovation of the dilapidated temple.
The temple which was built during the reign of King Jayavarman VII in the late 12 century AD. has fallen into a dilapidated state and the APSARA Authority is working on how to renovate the temple and not jeopardize the structure of the temple.
An archaeologist of the APSARA Authority, Pheng Dara, said that the excavation was done to study the structure of the entire Prohm Kel Temple. In this excavation work, the team excavated three different pits, the first excavation to study the structure of the gate, the second excavation to study the library structure and third excavation is to study the foundation of the temple tower.
