Job opportunity with the Maritime Asia Heritage Survey project. There is no closing date, but I suppose the call will be closed as soon as the position is filled.
The Maritime Asia Heritage Survey (MAHS) is funded by Arcadia, and based at the Kyoto University’s Center for Southeast Asian Studies. The project conducts field surveys of historical sites, structures, objects, and manuscripts across four countries in Maritime Southern Asia: Vietnam, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives. The data collected through this work is made open-access available on the project website and securely archived in order to produce and maintain records of the diverse and distinctive heritage of the region, which currently faces compound environmental and human threats to its preservation.
Qualifications:
The MAHS is now recruiting for a full-time Heritage Survey Manager to work with an international team to curate records and other digital heritage assets for our on-line, open-access heritage archive. We seek candidates with experience working on heritage surveys and archaeological sites in Asia. Primary duties include monitoring data capture and quality control of uploads to the MAHS Digital Heritage Documentation Lab in Kyoto. This position will also support the MAHS Field Survey Teams in identifying and documenting complex and/or difficult sites where expert interpretation is critical to defining the site and its components. Such work will be conducted both virtually and through extended periods of field work in each of the countries where the project operates. A high level of English proficiency is required, and preferred candidates will also bring some proficiency in Japanese and/or one of our primary field languages (Indonesian, Vietnamese, Sinhala, Dhivehi).
Starting date and term:
July 1, 2022, or the earliest possible date thereafter (adjustable according to individual requirements) to March 31, 2023. The contract will be renewed annually depending on achievements up to August 31, 2025, when the project ends.
Application procedure:
Applicants are requested to send followings via email
1) A cover letter (in English)
2) CV (in English)
3) Contact information for two references
