Devi Bhagavati, the shakti of Shiva, arrived on the distant shores of an erstwhile kingdom of Champa in Vietnam as part of ancient Asian cultural networks. She was assimilated within the prevailing local belief in mother goddess worship and her sanctuary was built by the Chams in Kauthara, now known as the Po Ina Nagar temple in the coastal city of Nha Trang in south-central Vietnam.
