via Khmer Times, 01 October 2022: Part of the government’s activities to relocate communities in the Angkor Archaeological Park and prevent the further construction of other buildings.
As part of the relocation of squatters and removal of illegal structures in the Angkor Archaeological Park, Prime Minister Hun Sen announced on Saturday that 35 pagodas built in the area will remain untouched.
Speaking at a meeting on Saturday with people who voluntarily moved from Angkor Park to Run Ta Ek Eco Village, the Premier said the government would allow these pagodas to remain in the UNESCO-listed Angkor area.
The announcement came after monks in the area raised concerns about the pagodas when authorities started to relocate people in the Angkor area to the village to prevent damage to national heritage sites.
