via Khmer Times, 20 January 2023: Project between Apsara Authority and the University of Hawaii looking at the transition to Theravada Buddhism in Angkor Wat.
A joint effort by archaeologists of Apsara National Authority and University of Hawaii to dig into the evolution of Theravada Buddhism and the people who lived during the period have yielded some results.
The experts have found evidence of laterite temples of Theravada Buddhism with sandstone pillars encircling in eight directions, as well as pottery fragments and charcoal fragments used by ancient people at the excavation site at the Angkor Archaeological Park.
The samples collected are needed to be studied further to find the evolution of Theravada Buddhism.
