Readers in Taiwan may be interested in this upcoming conference by the Institute of Archaeology, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) and the French School of Asian Studies (EFEO)
This conference aims to gather archaeologists and scholars working on indigenous archaelogy and cultural heritage in collaboration with indigenous communities in Taiwan, Japan, North America, and the Pacific. Topics range from the role and contribution of indigenous archaeology to both the archaeological discipline and indigenous peoples, to current and past archaeological practice of researching and collaborating with indigenous communities about their prehistoric and protohistoric past, and to interactions with indigenous communities in studying ancient settlements and understanding the past. The conference is divided in two parts: a full day of presentations and discussion at the Institute of Archaeology, NCKU, Tainan, followed by a day-long field trip to an indigenous community and its old settlement in the vicinity of Tainan.
