via Khmer Times, 22 March 2023: Cambodian scholar, Vong Sotheara, has called for a revision of Cambodia’s history education, arguing that it contains incorrect information and biases that promote a negative view of Cambodia’s history.
During an exclusive interview with Khmer Times, a scholar who has pinpointed two of the biggest misconceptions in Cambodian history called for a historical revisionism so that the local chronicle could be corrected for the future generation.
Appearing as the guest for this week’s Cross Talk episode, Vong Sotheara, the Head of the Department of History and a professor of Khmer Inscription and Cambodia-Southeast Asian history at the Royal University of Phnom Penh, said records of Cambodia’s history has had many errors which have been confused with myths and legends and needed correction.
“The records were produced years ago, mostly by foreigners, and they have been included into the curriculum without being updated,” Sotheara said.
