via Khmer Times, 16 June 2023: ICC-Angkor experts expressed satisfaction with the Cambodian government’s policy to relocate squatters from the Angkor Archaeological Park to Run Ta Ek and Peak Sneng, preserving the UNESCO World Heritage site.
Kosal said that people have volunteered to leave the Angkor area and relocate in accordance with the government’s policy. Therefore, visiting the Run Ta Ek development area in Banteay Srei district and Peak Sneng development area in Angkor Thom district in Siem Reap province was to better understand the well-being of the people there, even though they are outside the Angkor area.
He said that during the visit to inspect the new location, the ICC-Angkor Committee of Experts mentioned the successful work in preserving the World Heritage listed Angkor, which Cambodia implemented in accordance with the principles of UNESCO, especially related to illegal construction.
