via Khmer Times, 04 July 2023: The APSARA Authority’s forestry team is providing medical care to an old silk-cotton tree near Ta Prohm temple, highlighting the importance of preserving trees for their role in protecting against wind, retaining groundwater, and maintaining the beauty and structural integrity of the temples.
Kong Sovannarith, Technical Officer of the DWMFI, said that some old trees in the park are in a dilapidated condition and need medical care.
He said that without intensive care for this particular tree, it may face premature death and damage the temple if it rots because its trunk and roots are growing so close to the temple. In addition, without the tree living in place, the site will lose some beauty. Tourists are often attracted to the tree.
Sovannarith added that the forest around the Angkor park area is a natural kind of protection that stops the wind, retains groundwater, provides shade and attracts visitors.
