via Citizen’s Journal, 11 July 2023: As George Town marks its 15th year as a World Heritage Site, the Penang government proposes RM40 million worth of heritage conservation projects, demonstrating its commitment to protecting these cultural treasures and promoting sustainable development.
Penang Caretaker Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow announced that the state government has proposed seven categories of heritage conservation projects to the Department of National Heritage.
This proposal comes after an initial allocation of RM50 million in the revised Budget 2023 for the preservation and management of Penang’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
As George Town celebrates its 15th year as a World Heritage Site, the government remains committed to protecting these cultural treasures for the benefit of future generations.
