via Khmer Times, 21 July 2023: Despite the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on tourism, authorities in Preah Vihear are encouraging people to visit the Preah Vihear Temple, which has seen a decline in tourist numbers but has been steadily attracting visitors after the government’s efforts to develop infrastructure in the area.
“After building the infrastructure in 2017-2018, Preah Vihear has started attracting a lot of tourists to visit the Preah Vihear Temple. Over 10,000 local and international tourists visited Preah Vihear Temple every month. It was a very good sign for the government,” said Eang Hourt.
He said that the situation has changed during the Covid-19 pandemic. It has hit hard the Preah Vihear Temple tourist destination with the decline in the number of local tourist and international tourists.
“Preah Vihear Temple tourist destination has been much better last year and this year as well. Some 5,000 to 6,000 tourists visit Preah Vihear every month. It’s a good sign now,” said Eang Hourt.
