via Khmer Times, 03 August 2023: The restoration team from the Department of Conservation of Monuments and Preventive Archaeology is repairing the severely damaged north gate at the second level of the Eastern Mebon temple, caused by rainwater infiltration and plant growth, with 50% completion so far.
Pot said that the factor that causes the gate to be severely damaged was due to rainwater infiltration. Moisture also causes the walls to rot, and the plants that grow on top of the gate cause many small and large cracks, and some roots to penetrate the walls, causing the cracks to grow.
While the north gate of the Eastern Mebon temple is at risk of the tower, the technical team of the Department of Conservation of Monuments and Preventive Archaeology of the APSARA National Authority has identified the risk and strengthened the foundation and used cable clamps to make internal scaffolding to help stabilize.
