via Khmer Times, 10 August 2023: During the 56th ASEAN Day Celebration, Cambodia’s Minister of Culture urged institutions and stakeholders to protect cultural heritage sites from natural disasters, theft, vandalism, and promote cultural collaboration within ASEAN member nations.
During the 56th ASEAN Day Celebration at the Royal University of Fine Arts on Monday, Minister of Culture Phoeurng Sackona said national heritage sites need to be safeguarded to promote national culture and increase its visibility on a regional and global scale.
“ We have to protect our cultural legacy against both natural disasters and threats inflicted by people, such as theft, vandalism, and illegal trading.
“Our cultural heritage needs to be promoted and valued among the people, especially among our young people,” she said.
To assist cultural endeavours, particularly the successful implementation of current frameworks and other initiatives, Sackona said that there was also a need to strengthen cultural collaboration among ASEAN member nations as well as dialogue partners and other external stakeholders.
