via Khmer Times, 15 August 2023: Oddar Meanchey provincial authorities in Cambodia have identified 1,260 ancient artefacts this year, cataloguing 86.5% of them, and have called for public cooperation in preserving the nation’s cultural heritage.
Hong Yoeun, director of Oddar Meanchey Department of Culture and Fine Arts, said yesterday that the department has catalogued and collected artefacts from archaeological sites, including temples, pagodas and in rural areas.
All newly discovered artefacts are catalogued at the provincial museum. Of the 1,260 newly discovered artefacts 1,090, or 86.5% of the pieces, have been collected and whenever possible taken to the museum for identification and cataloguing.
The number of artefacts that have been discovered, but which remain uncatalogued and not yet formally unidentified that remain in the public domain is 170, or 13.5% of all pieces discovered so far this year.
