via Khmer Times, 21 August 2023: The government has expanded and renamed the Preah Vihear Temple Protected Land as Preah Vihear-Phnom Dangrek Protected Land, covering two provinces, Preah Vihear and Oddar Meanchey, to enhance ecosystem preservation and protect cultural significance.
The move is aimed at intensifying efforts to preserve the ecosystem of the entire area with the famous Preah Vihear Temple situated on top of a 525-metre cliff in the Dangrek Mountains.
As per the sub-decree signed by Prime Minister Hun Sen and Minister of Environment Say Samal, the Preah Vihear-Phnom Dangrek protected land was formed by combining 5,000 hectares in Preah Vihear Temple area, as stated in
the Royal Decree in 1993, with parts of the Oddar Biodiversity Conservation Corridor which covers 42,318 hectares, as stated in the sub-decree in 2017.
