via various sources, 04 November 2023: The Western causeway of Angkor Wat, a symbol of Cambodia-Japan relations, was reopened in a ceremony attended by King Norodom Sihamoni and key Japanese figures, including Yoshiaki Ishizawa of Sophia University. This event not only marks the completion of the causeway’s restoration, supported by Japan’s official development assistance, but also celebrates the shared commitment to sustainable conservation and the use of traditional restoration techniques.
King Norodom Sihamoni presided over the November 4 opening ceremony of the Western grand causeway of Angkor Wat Temple.
The causeway was closed to the public for many years while repairs were carried out.
The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Hun Manet and former Prime Minister Sun Sen, as well as several other high-ranking officials and foreign diplomatic representatives.
