via Daily Express Malaysia, 13 November 2023: The 2023 Museum Festival in Sabah, Malaysia, emphasizes the conservation and preservation of state heritage, including both tangible and intangible cultural elements. Launched at the Sabah Museum Department, the festival is part of the State Heritage Enactment 2017, aiming to maintain Sabah’s unique identity. It serves as an extension of the North Borneo Rainforest Festival, promoting cultural understanding and appreciation among the public and visitors. The festival is seen as a means to gather cultural characteristics of Sabah, enhance tourism, and support local economic development.
Emphasising the conservation and preservation of State heritage sites, objects and both tangible and intangible cultural elements is crucial for maintaining Sabah’s identity.
Tourism, Culture, and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew said this is outlined in the State Heritage Enactment 2017, which mandates the conservation and preservation of State heritage.
She said this during the launch of the 2023 Museum Festival at the Sabah Museum Department.
Liew’s speech was delivered by Tourism, Culture, and Environment Ministry Deputy Permanent Secretary II, Alesia Sion.
