via Khmer Times, 15 November 2023: The Svay Rieng provincial Department of Culture and Fine Arts is undertaking an initiative to preserve and protect archaeological sites in the region, including ancient burial mounds. The department’s director, Ein Nakry, highlighted collaboration with local authorities to address land ownership issues and correctly identify archaeological areas.
The department’s director Ein Nakry said yesterday that they have a number of objectives in place, especially the land ownership issues in collaboration with the local authority, to verify the designated archaeological areas and rename misspelt areas.
There are 46 archaeological sites in four districts such as Svay Teab, Romduol, Chantrea and Bavet. There are 805 sites in Svay Rieng province to be registered for protection and preservation, she said.
These ancient sites are the nation’s cultural property, just like the ancient temples. These historical landmarks contain foundations of ancient temples, while other sites have pottery that the department wants to preserve and protect, she added.
