via Khmer Times, 17 December 2023: Cambodia’s Prime Minister, Dr. Hun Manet, affirmed the continuation of collaboration with Japan’s Sophia University for the preservation and restoration of temples, including the iconic Angkor Wat. The partnership, spanning over 30 years, has seen significant contributions from Professor Ishizawa Yoshiaki and the University, including the establishment of the Asia Centre for Research and Training in Siem Reap, focusing on heritage site management.
During the meeting, Prof. Ishizawa briefed the premier on the progress that he and the University of Sophia have contributed to the restoration of Angkor Wat and other temples in Siem Reap for the past 30 years, full of love and admiration for the talent of the Khmer ancestors to build those temples.
In addition, Sophia University has opened the Asia Centre for Research and Training of Human Resources in Siem Reap to share experiences on conservation, restoration, and management of heritage sites in temples in the Angkor and Preah Vihear areas to serve the study and find out the practical application.
The professor also asked the premier to support the University of Sofia in continuing cooperation in the repair and conservation work in the Angkor resort area.
