via Khmer Times, 28 December 2023: The Sambor Prei Kuk temple complex in Kampong Thom province, Cambodia, has experienced a significant increase in visitor numbers, with a 122.5% rise compared to last year. The UNESCO World Heritage site attracted 56,125 tourists this year, with a higher proportion of international visitors. The local authorities plan to upgrade infrastructure, including road repairs, to further boost tourism. However, due to its status as a World Heritage Site, any changes require careful consultation with experts.
Many visitors travelling to Preah Vihear temple or Siem Reap have to pass through the province, which has become a popular stop-over place for people wanting to visit the Sambor Prei Kuk temple complex.
Phan Nady, Director General of the Sambor Prei Kuk Authority, said that there is a dramatic rise in visitors to the temple complex.
“Tourists at Sambo Prei Kuk have increased a lot, especially foreign visitors,” Nady said. “However, national tourist numbers dropped a little in April.”
