The Apsara National Authority (ANA), the state agency in charge of managing the Angkor Archaeological Park in Siem Reap, announced yesterday that a restoration team working on the Southern Gate of Ta Prohm temple has uncovered stones and assessed the condition of the gate’s foundation, another milestone in the study of the ancient temple.
Working with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), ANA is excavating and repairing the southern gate, aiming to restore the original structure and the value of the temple, well-known for the trees growing out of the ruins.
According to the Department of Conservation of Monuments and Preventive Archaeology, prior to the restoration work, ASI collected information and proceeded to dismantle the southern gate.
