World Monument Fund of the United States, in collaboration with the APSARA National Authority, is continuing to restore the staircase and western wall of Phnom Bakheng Temple after completing the restoration of the staircases and walls in the east and the north.
Cheam Phally, an architect and project coordinator from the World Monument Fund, said that the restoration of the southern staircase and wall of Phnom Bakheng Temple has reached 50%, which is scheduled for completion in December 2027.
Phally added that Phnom Bakheng Temple is not different from other temples, it is damaged due to the age, tree roots, the weather and water flow, causing damage to the structure of the temple to tilt and collapse. The southern staircase and the western wall in the middle of the pyramid of Phnom Bakheng are also crumbling and cracking.
