via VN Express, 05 March 2024: Quang Nam province has proposed a $67.4 million conservation strategy to protect and enhance Hoi An’s heritage sites, aiming to transform the historic town into an eco-cultural-tourism city of international renown. The plan includes renovating relics, upgrading cultural facilities, and implementing advanced systems for fire and pest control and flood protection. Funded primarily by the state budget with additional support from official development aid loans, this initiative addresses critical challenges such as waste management, visitor impact, and natural degradation, to ensure the preservation of Hoi An’s 1,439 relics, including its UNESCO-listed Old Town.
The central province of Quang Nam has proposed a VND1.67-trillion (US$67.4 million) plan to conserve and enhance valuable heritage sites and relics in the historic town of Hoi An.
In the plan recently submitted to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Quang Nam aims to develop Hoi An into an eco-cultural-tourism city, expanding its role as a driving force in the tourism-service development of the central coastal region and the country as a whole. The goal is to have Hoi An to become a household name in Asia with a reputation as a world-class destination.
