via Khmer Times, 06 March 2024: During a visit to Cambodia’s National Museum, the UK Minister for the Indo-Pacific, Rt Hon. Anne-Marie Trevelyan, and Cambodian Minister of Culture and Fine Arts, Phoeurng Sackona, discussed strengthening cultural relationships between the two countries. The visit highlighted the return of ancient Cambodian sculptures from the UK and led to agreements on several initiatives, including a potential MOU to combat illegal antiquities trafficking, expert assistance in preserving Cambodia’s gold collections, and training opportunities for Cambodian professionals in the UK.
The UK Minister for the Indo-Pacific Rt Hon. Anne-Marie Trevelyan had the privilege of visiting the National Museum on March 4, 2024 alongside Cambodian Minister of Culture and Fine Arts Phoeurng Sackona.During the visit, Minister Sackona presented several significant ancient Cambodian sculptures, particularly statues and jewellery that had been returned to Cambodia from the UK.
