via Manila Times, 30 April 2024: In celebration of National Heritage Month in May, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts is focusing on “Championing Heritage: Capacity Building to Transform Communities.” This theme focuses on the importance of capacity building in preserving cultural identity, particularly through engaging with Indigenous communities. The month-long celebration will include activities aimed at strengthening heritage promotion and enhancing the awareness and protection of Filipino cultural heritage through tools like cultural mapping and the Philippine Registry of Heritage.
THE month of May is National Heritage Month (NHM), declared through Presidential Proclamation 439, s. 2003, reinforcing the importance of preserving and promoting the Philippines’ rich cultural heritage in this digital age.
This year’s theme, “Championing Heritage: Capacity Building to Transform Communities,” highlights the essential role of capacity building in empowering communities to preserve their cultural identity.
