via various sources, 07-08 May 2024: Cambodia has initiated a significant cultural project by sending the West Mebon Vishnu statue, a large 11th-century bronze artifact, along with 39 other pieces to France for restoration and exhibition. Discovered in 1936 and notable for its massive size and intricate craftsmanship, the statue and accompanying artifacts will undergo scientific studies and restoration at French facilities.
Cambodia and France are cooperating to transport the “West Mebon Vishnu” statue along with another 39 pieces of ancient artwork to France for repair and later exhibition.
The large bronze Vishnu statue was discovered by the French in 1936. The statue dates to the 11th century and is one of the largest bronzes ever unearthed at Angkor.
