via Daily News, 27 May 2024: A Sri Lankan exorcist was arrested for attempting to sell an ancient statue valued at Rs. 12 million. The arrest was made by the Archaeological Unit of the Southern Range of the Matara Police, following a tip-off.
Walana Police anti-corruption task force officers arrested an exorcist in Kuruwita who allegedly tried to sell a panchaloha (traditional five-metal alloys) Buddha statue said to have been donated by King Sri Wickrama Rajasingha as an offering to the Buddha.
He had tried to sell it to a foreigner for Rs.12 million according to the Police.
This statue which is said to have been offered by King Rajasingha as an offering to the Buddha is made of Gold, Silver, Copper, Zinc and Iron.
