via Khmer Times, 26 June 2024: Cambodia emphasized its commitment to heritage protection and conservation during the 2nd council meeting of the Alliance for Cultural Heritage in Asia in China. The Cambodian delegation highlighted efforts to combat illicit trafficking and repatriate cultural artifacts, showcasing the country’s dedication to preserving its rich cultural heritage and collaborating with international partners.
Cambodia has highlighted its strong commitment to the protection and conservation of heritage by enacting and enforcing necessary national legislation, and through its active participation in the international community by ratifying all key international conventions and strengthening international cooperation.
This was disclosed by a Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts delegation which attended the 2nd council meeting of the Alliance for Cultural Heritage in Asia hosted by the International Conference on the Protection and Return of Cultural Objects Removed from Colonial Contexts in Qingdao, Shandong Province in China on June 20 which drew over 150 delegates from 27 countries and two international organisations.
Pen Moni Makara, Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts of Cambodia, said yesterday that “In the past several years, Cambodia has making headlines in international news because of its remarkable efforts to combat the illicit trafficking of cultural property and to make formal repatriation requests for Cambodia’s lost heritage”.
