via Khmer Times, 02 July 2024: Archaeologists from the Cambodian Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts have excavated Tuol Koh Trach, an ancient temple in Pursat province, disrupted by a road construction project. Discoveries include 7th-century artifacts and architectural elements, providing insights into pre-Angkorian settlements.
He added that the foundations of the temple were made of bricks and the floor connected to the gates of the brick temple in the northeast corner. Meanwhile, the technical team found an ancient relic in the Sambor Prei Kuk style.
He added that in addition to the discovery of the temple structure, the technical team also found other archaeological items, such as pottery, limestone and sandstone fragments, which were the architectural components of the temple.
He said that based on the artefacts found during the excavation it was concluded that people settled there from the 7th century, prior to the Angkorian period.
