via Khmer Times, 10 July 2024: On the 7th anniversary of Sambor Prei Kuk’s UNESCO World Heritage status, Phan Nady, Director-General of the National Authority, called for increased tourism to the unique temple site, which features distinctive octagonal brick construction and pre-Angkor sculptures. Despite promotion, visitor numbers remain low compared to other temples. Efforts to improve infrastructure and international interest aim to boost tourism.
On the 7th anniversary of the inclusion of the Sambor Prei Kuk temple complex on the World Heritage List on Monday, Phan Nady, Director-General of National Authority for Sambor Prei Kuk urged young people to understand the “uniqueness” of the temple site and promote its special value to attract more tourists.
Nady added that Sambor Prei Kuk is not as famous as some other temples, even though it has been widely promoted, so the number of tourists visiting the temple complex is low in comparison, noting that the number of visitors in the first six months of this year was about the same as last year.
However, Sambor Prei Kuk is unique because of its special construction as the temple is made of octagonal bricks and has sculptures that are different to other temples, he said.
