via Khmer Times, 26 July 2024: APSARA National Authority has launched a significant restoration project at the 1,000-year-old Kork Po Temple in Siem Reap, focusing on the heavily damaged tower A. Led by archaeologist Hour Sothoun, the work includes clearing vegetation, documenting the site, and reinforcing the structure. The project, expected to take six months, aims to preserve this vital cultural heritage site for future generations.
The temple complex – which dates back more than 1,000 years – is constructed from brick and sandstone and is located in Kork Po village of Daun Keo commune in Puok district of Siem Reap province.
Kork Po Temple comprises four towers that experts have labeled A, B, C and D. Each was built during different eras and under different kings. Unfortunately, due to natural aging and a lack of maintenance, towers C and D have completely collapsed.
Currently, only tower A and the surrounding walls remain intact along with parts of tower B. The restoration work is being led by Hour Sothoun, an archaeologist from the Department of Conservation of Monuments and Preventive Archaeology.
