The police in Manila detain a Japanese man transporting some 100 skeletal remains. While the Japanese man has a permit to carry out excavations, he did not have the required permit to transport the human remains out of the site.

A cargo of about 100 human skeletal remains allegedly belonging to Japanese Imperial soldiers during World War II was recently intercepted by operatives of the Manila Police District (MPD) in Manila, MPD officer-in-charge Chief Supt. Rodolfo Magtibay disclosed Monday.
The human skeletal remains were intercepted at 3:30 a.m. last April 25 at the corner of Padre Burgos Street and Finance Drive in Ermita, but Magtibay revealed this information only Monday to media.
With the interception of the human skeletal remains, Magtibay said the MPD police received a crash course in cultural heritage preservation.
