via Bangkok Post, 12 May 2019: The Kanchanaburi city wall was damaged by the sudden fall of a tamarind tree that was over 100 years old.
An ancient wall – a tourist attraction in this storied western town – was partly damaged after a large tamarind tree more than 100 years old, crashed down on it early Sunday.
Prapruet Maliphon, 75, a resident who lives on Lak Muang road near the wall in Kanchanaburi town, said he heard a thunderous noise at about 2am but did not leave his house to take a look.
After daybreak he found the old tamarind tree lying on the wall, leaving a crack along its base. Nobody was hurt.
