From Oli Pryce: It is to be expected, given the current global situation. Higham2020 has been postponed to the next year on account of Covid-19.
Dear all,
Sometimes events outpace even the cautious optimism of a mere week ago. The systematic news I have had back from Australasia, Otago University but not only, is that travel bans and funding freezes are already in place until 30th June 2020 and likely to be extended. Restrictions in France, Europe and elsewhere, including Southeast Asia itself, are only increasing. Even if a vaccine were discovered tomorrow the world is so disrupted now that, I hope you will understand, I have no choice but to go with the flow.We already delayed from Higham2019 due to renovations in Aussois, and now we push back again to Higham2021. I don’t think one has to be terribly superstitious to cross fingers for ‘third time lucky’. As mentioned in the last email, the new dates are Sunday 27th June to Friday 2nd July 2021. Being a week later in the year, we have even better chances for glorious blue skies. I also hope that those who couldn’t make the 2020 event, for whatever reason, will find time for 2021. WAC has rescheduled to 4-9 July 2021, so it makes ‘double-tapping’ the trip a possibility, and I’ve never been to Prague either! Another important element for the delay, is more time to prepare those synthetic presentations, which I am so looking forward to hearing.
