via Nhan Dan, 09 October 2020: Thang Long was the name given to what is now Hanoi during the Ly Dynasty 1010 years ago. The exhibition is on for the rest of this month.
An exhibition named ‘Kinh Do Muon Doi’ (The eternal capital) opened at the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long in Hanoi,on October 9, as part of activities to celebrate 1010th anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi and the 66th anniversary of the city’s Liberation Day (October 10, 1954-2020).
Held by the Thang Long – Hanoi Heritage Conservation Centre, the exhibition aims to highlight the role and vision of King Ly Thai To in moving the capital from Hoa Lu to Dai La and then renaming Thang Long 1010 years ago. During 11 centuries, Thang Long has been the country’s cultural and political centre, also beingthe site of the country’s most important events. Under the Nguyen Dynasty, the capital was transferred to Hue. But soon after the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, Thang Long returned as the Capital, with the name Hanoi. Hanoi continued as the capital of the new Socialist Republic of Vietnam when the country was finally reunited.
