via Bangkok Post, 02 December 2020: The new subway station near Museum Siam also incorporates a small museum featuring the archaeology of the immediate area.
Thailand’s first underground museum has been launched at MRT Sanam Chai station in Bangkok
The Site Museum has been established under a collaboration between Museum Siam and its two partners, the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand and Bangkok Expressway and Metro.
Located within the subway area — where Sanam Chai station meets with Museum Siam, The Site Museum tells the background story of Sanam Chai neighbourhood and its vicinity — from past to present. The idea of The Site Museum began after various ancient objects were discovered and retrieved during the construction of the MRT station. Some of them have been displayed at Museum Siam and inside the MRT station over the past year. The displays eventually turned the stairway areas of the station into The Site Museum.
