via Myanmar Times, 07 January 2021: Parts of the historic U Bein bridge in Amarapura will be repaired, with the old pillars kept for safekeeping in a temple. The bridge is the longest teak bridge in the world.
Eight damaged pillars of the U Bein Bridge in Amarapura township of Mandalay Region will be replaced, said U Myint Zaw, Department of Archaeology and National Museum.
The old poles will be preserved at Bargayar monastery in Amarapura.
U Bein Bridge on Taungthaman Lake was built by the clerk U Bein about 170 years ago. It is 1.56 kilometres long and more than 1000 teak logs were used.
