The book, the Archaeology of Knowledge Traditions of the Indian Ocean World historicises the shared heritage of the pre-modern Indian Ocean region. The contributors conceptualise the epistemic pluralism and the transmission of knowledge in societies through means other than textual transmission, such as recitation, performance, temples, and writing. Analysing myths, monuments, scripts, rituals and iconography from Arabia, China, India, and Angkor among others, the volume traces the intellectual advances made through a cross pollination of ideas resulting from travels across the Indian Ocean world.
